Green Party MP Chlöe Swarbrick has drafted a member’s bill which would seek to ban alcohol advertisements.
The bill would ban alcohol advertisements across the board, including sports team sponsorships.
It’s hoped the bill would reduce the glamorisation and normalisation of alcohol.
Swarbrick told Kate Hawkesby (the interviewer) alcohol is associated with a range of social harms, and highlights that: “ACC reports that alcohol is associated with one in four traffic offences, in in two serious violence offences, one in five traffic crashes.”
